A couple weeks into school, we decided that we needed (ok, really wanted) a weekend getaway. We had miles that we need to use in the next year or so from Cathay, so I looked to see where we could get to easily, with just a few days notice. Manila it was! Even though I didn't relish in idea of going to Manila when it was a place that I dreaded when we lived in Baguio, I thought getting away for a weekend would be nice. We stayed at the number one rated hotel on Tripadvisor (Pan Pacific) and it definitely didn't disappoint! Since we got the tickets for free with miles, I justified the more expensive hotel. Balance, right? Last time we were in Manila (passing through back from Boracay), we discovered that Uber worked there, and it was amazing. So we knew we needed to take advantage of that this time around as well. Unfortunately, I read online that Uber wasn't allowed at the airport (looking back on this, I think it was one of those "rules" that wasn't really enforced), so I looked at some alternatives online because I didn't want to deal with the massive taxi line, or trying to haggle for a fixed price. I read that you can take the shuttle to Resorts World (which is just across the freeway from the airport) and then get an Uber from there. So that's what we did and it worked out great. We hadn't been to Resorts World before, so we hung out there for a while and ate dinner before taking an Uber to our hotel. Our hotel was amazing. We were welcomed with drinks (massive glasses of red wine) and some of the best service I've ever encountered at a hotel. I think they were a little surprised to see that we just had small backpacks. Probably not the usual luggage of people staying at a fancy hotel. Our weekend consisted of hanging out by the pool (even though the weather wasn't great) and wandering around Robinson's Mall (including going bowling there!), which was just a few blocks away. We had some great food and drinks, enjoyed some wonderful (and super cheap) massages, got pedicures, and overall just had a relaxing weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised with how smooth everything went and how much we enjoyed the weekend, after our previous experiences with Manila. We will definitely be taking advantage of that again in the future, as it's an easy and cheap flight from Hong Kong!
