So even though we've been here over 2 months, we haven't seen a lot of the city, due to being insanely busy at school. So on Saturday, we took the cable car to see the Big Buddha. It's rated very highly on things to do in Hong Kong. It's apparently the largest seated Buddha in the world. We saw the largest reclining one last year in Thailand, so it was only fitting that we see the largest seated one :) We decided to take the cable car up to it, instead of walking or taking the bus. I think that was a good choice. If you're afraid of heights, then maybe not so much. But we both thought it was super cool. And we got a Crystal Car, so the bottom of the it was glass. Very neat.

Last weekend, we had a long weekend, so Brandon and I headed off to Macau to get away for a few days. We left on Friday morning, and then returned Sunday afternoon. Perfect little get-away. To get to Macau from Hong Kong, you take a ferry. It took about an hour. Apparently, they're going to start building a bridge soon from HK to Macau, which will be super cool when it's done. I think it's something like 18 miles or so. Crazy. Our hotel in Macau was really nice. It was old, but still really nice. Gorgeous resort-style pool outside. So we spent part of the day Friday and Saturday just relaxing by the pool. Much needed.
Well, so much for being better about posting more often. Though I do have a semi-legit excuse this time. This last weekend, I spent the entire weekend (8-5 Fri, Sat, and Sun) at a conference all about MYP (middle years program of the International Baccalaureate program). It was very informative, but Monday and today have been rough, since I didn't really get a weekend. I did learn a lot at the conference, so that was good. Though it did make me realize how much more I could be doing in my classes. There's just not enough time in the day. Especially when I teach 4 completely different classes (7th grade, 10th grade, the lowest 11th grade class, and the highest 12th grade class). Finding the balance between work and not-work has been tough. It doesn't help when the main person I talk to has the same job as me. We're constantly talking about school at home. It's something we're trying to get better at (I mean trying to not talk about it so much so we can stay sane).
I realize it's been a while since the last post. I'll get better. I promise. Things are going well here in HK. We're settled in and starting to feel comfortable at work. I mean, I've been comfortable doing my actual job of teaching since day 1, but really getting to know the ins and outs of the school and how things work. It's definitely a steep learning curve, though. Lots to learn. Lots of technology. Lots of new teaching theories. But I feel like it's all good. Brandon and I are both learning a lot and (I think) becoming better teachers.
