March was a very busy month for us. Year 9 camp on Lamma Island, Singapore to visit friends, and Taipei for football. Immediately after Claire and Tara left, we spent 4 days and 3 nights on Lamma Island with all 100 of the year 9 students for camp. It was a wonderful week filled with hiking, outdoor activities, and camping. The students were so well behaved and really enjoyed all of the outdoor activities, especially because many of them are definitely city kids!

At the end of February, Claire and Tara came to visit! We did lots of HK sightseeing, and obviously lots of talking to catch up. It was so wonderful to have MN friends come all the way to HK :)
October was a crazy month. Brandon's parents came to visit Hong Kong for a week, and then we went to Macau (a surprise trip we planned for them!) and Siem Reap with them. And then Brandon and I went to Singapore. The first day that they were in Hong Kong was 'Beertopia' craft beer festival. A great way to get over jet lag ;) It's a huge craft beer festival that has beers from all over the world. And it's on the Central waterfront in HK, so it's an awesome view. It was a great way to introduce Nichols to the city! We also went on the HK Ferris Wheel, to Big Buddha (with the cable car), Happy Valley Races, and Disneyland during their time in HK.
Ok, I think I remember a few more things in this month . . . For one of the weekends, we went to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia with a couple of our friends. It was an awesome weekend! We stayed at a really nice resort and went snorkeling, parasailing, and read by the pool. An amazing and relaxing weekend!
So this is incredibly late, but I really want to try and get back into this (yes, yes, I know, I've said that numerous times). . . So I will try and remember the main things from August!
We arrived back in Hong Kong at the beginning of the month and started school. The first picture is our view. Love it! Nothing really note worthy, but looking through my iPhoto, we did spend an afternoon wandering one of the little islands in HK called Peng Chau. Such a cool little place! Well I’m definitely failing on keeping up to date on this. It’s already the end of August and I haven’t written about June. So here’s the June post. Hopefully July will come soon too! For most of the month of June, we were in Hong Kong and working. Work was hectic, and I crammed an entire grad school class into the first three weeks of it. But now I’m over half way done with my masters, so yay! The first weekend in June, I went to Phuket, Thailand with 16 other female teachers from school. It was an awesome weekend. We stayed at a fancy resort right on the beach. We literally just laid in the sun, ate, drank, and got massages. It was such a good weekend. I didn’t realize that it would be so worth it to go away just for the weekend. But when I think about it, (besides cost), it’s pretty much the same thing as driving from Fargo to the cities for the weekend. We flew out on Friday night and came back Sunday night. It was an awesome weekend!
I can't believe it's almost June! Only four weeks of school left. This year has gone by crazy fast. We've been living in Hong Kong for almost a year now. Wow. The month of May wasn't as exciting as the last few months, but it definitely still had some big moments. The first two weeks I spent a lot of time with my seniors, studying for their math exams during the third week of May. I really hope they did well because they worked so hard. I guess we'll find out in July when the IB marks come out :) Also during the first two weeks, I was finishing up two classes for grad school. I'm half way done with my masters now! I'm taking another one this summer and then two for the next three semesters, and then I'll be done at Christmas in 2015.
Well April has been a whirlwind of a month. The first two weeks were fairly normal weeks at school. It was the last two weeks with our senior students because then there’s Easter break and then they have a week of study leave and then their IB exams begin. Hectic time for all involved. So every lunch and after school for the few weeks before Easter break was spent with them, reviewing as much as possible. Many of my students have conditional offers universities, which means that they have to earn a certain score on their exams, so needless to say, they’re prepping hard. Oh on on their last day at school, they trashed the staff room (see the pics below) but cleaned it up after. What good kids!
March was a whirlwind of a month, but not because anything particularly exciting happened. It was just crazy busy. Two major things that happened were: Brandon got a promotion to Dean next year and he also broke his nose. Clearly the former being much more exciting. He applied for the position in February and found out mid-March that he got it. It doesn't start until next school year, but it's still a pretty big deal now :) Now on to the not as good thing.... While coaching basketball (side note: he got asked to coach the ESF All-Star team, so he was practicing with them in March) he got elbowed in the face by a student. He didn't really think anything of it, because it didn't bleed and it didn't hurt that much. But a few days later it still was a little swollen (we later found out that swollen=broken) and couldn't breathe very well, so he went to the doctor. Two doctors later, he realized it was broken and needed surgery. So he was out of school for a week. It was all over in a week, so that was good, but it was a pretty awful experience for him. Everything went as well as it could have, but he said it was still the most painful thing he ever went through.
Since I have only been posting after vacations, I decided that I was going to try something new to force me to post more often. A summary of the month on the last day of the month. This way, all of the posts should be semi-interesting and I'll post more than just after vacations.
