Brandon had training for Dean stuff over on Hong Kong island today, so I met him in Central after and we found a new place for dinner. It was okay. Good selection of beer, but the food was a bit over-priced. And Brandon's mouth was on fire from the spicy wings that he had. In Asia when they say spicy, they mean spicy! I could barely handle a bite and he at five wings. On another note, I spent the entire day today reading through all of the ninth graders' goals for their personal projects. It was kinda boring to be honest, but I am really excited to be taking on this role and get to work with all of these students on something that they're passionate about.

I don't have a photo today, but I still wanted to post. Today was my first real 'on day' as Personal Project Coordinator at school. I can't remember if I wrote about this new role or not, so here's a quick summary... All 10th grade students complete a project that they get to choose what it is. Is caps off their MYP years before moving on to the diploma program for IB. I am the new superviser for this. So today, I spent the entire school day with 100 9th graders getting the ready for this. We spent the day talking about what makes a good project and how to write a good goal. They were supposed to have their goal for their project written by the end of the day. It was a really great day. A bit stressful because it was me with 100 kids, but they all did awesome. And some of them have some really cool ideas, so I'm really looking forward to the next year with them to see what they'll accomplish :) Today was a national holiday, Buddha's Birthday, so we didn't have school. I spent most of the day out and about running errands. Nothing too exciting, but it was really nice to get some things done around the house. This picture is of DB plaza, kinda like the downtown of the area we live in. I always live being there because it's so lively and people just seem happy :) I actually slept more than I planned... Didn't wake up until 9am. Guess I needed it! This afternoon we played a really fun game called 'Wits and Wagers' with a few of our friends. Unfortunately, this is the only picture I took. Haha. Michael playing with the chips. After game afternoon, I went to the spa for a massage. It was amazing. That's one of the main things that I miss about the Philippines. Cheap spa stuff. A massage for an hour was $8. Here it's like $25, so still cheaper than the US, but not cheap enough to go every week.
It is now 7:30pm on Saturday and I'm going to bed. I'm excited about this for two reasons. 1) see yesterday's post on what I did last night 2) look at these amazing sheets we just bought! Yes, I know, I will probably be awake at 5am, but I'm okay with that. I'm kind of a morning person and might actually be able to get some work done then. As for now, it's bed time! Brandon and I slept at school with a bunch of high schoolers for a world hunger fundraiser. The students fasted for 40 hours to raise money for world hunger. They actually didn't stay up as late as I thought they would, but it's probably because they hadn't eaten anything. So they were in bed around 1 am, so I got about 5 hours of sleep, which wasn't too bad. It was actually a really fun nights. Lots of chatting with the 11th graders and board games. It was really nice to get to know more students outside of the ones that I teach.
Today was a national holiday, so we didn't have school. However, I spent most of the day there with my seniors reviewing for their exams in a couple weeks. Tonight's picture is more than just my dinner (homemade veggie pizza and a cappuccino I made with my new espresso machine). It's my last meal until Saturday. There's a fundraiser at school that's called '40 hour famine' to raise support for ending world hunger. It's starts tonight and goes until Saturday morning. And tomorrow night Brandon and I are spending the night at school with a bunch of students for this fundraiser. So hopefully that will go well! I hope they want to sleep some, because I haven't pulled an all nighter in a while and I'm not sure that I'll be up for it. Especially without food. |
