It was finally nice out today! After two weeks of super cold temps, we actually had a nice day today. Though I don't think it's going to last for long, it was still great to not be absolutely freezing in our apartment tonight. This picture is the view from my classroom earlier today. Today was just another day at home. I spent lots of time working on grad school homework, as well as just getting things done around the house. On Friday, Valentine's Day, I had planned to make Brandon his favorite meal, but then he decided he just wanted to order pizza and watch a movie. So tonight I made it. Steak and mashed potatoes with a brandy peppercorn sauce and cheesecake. So that's what the picture is of today :) I need to get better at actually taking worthwhile pictures instead of just taking one because I need one for the blog. Tonight, we went out to eat in the plaza with a few of our friends from work, so this is a picture of the plaza at night. I should have actually taken one at dinner. Oops. Next time :) My parents left for MN this morning. It was so great that they were able to come and visit for 10 days. It's been tough being away from family these last three years, but it helps so much that they've been able to come and visit every year (the first year they met us in Japan, the second year they came to the Philippines and then this year they came here to HK). I am really looking forward to spending a few weeks with them this summer back in brained. Anyway, the picture for today is just in my classroom. We didn't really do anything exciting today because it was so cold. Hopefully it will start to warm up soon. It's not that it's THAT cold outside, it's that it's the same temp inside, since our apartment doesn't have heat and the walls are not insulated at all. So it's about 50F inside, which is really cold to do anything. So we just ordered pizza and watched a movie. This is a picture of what one of my students graphed on his calculator in class today. We were discussing how to graph non-functions (for example, a circle) and how you have to split them into two (or more) functions. So what he drew was actually semi-related to what we were doing in class. We went to the horse races at Happy Valley tonight with my parents. I'm always amazed at how big of a deal they are. On each race, there's like $4-5 million US dollars bet. It's ridiculous. But really fun to watch :) I realize now that this project365 is going to be quite boring on days that I have to work, so I'll try and make it as exciting as possible. Though I may have failed today. Brandon and I went out to a nice dinner tonight (buy 1 get 1 free at a local restaurant!) and I got an amazing chocolate dessert. It was just called 'Death by Chocolate' so I thought that sounded awesome. It was an assortment of chocolate desserts. Awesome :) I know this isn't a picture that I took, but it's definitely representative of today. It's so cold here! I know 46F isn't that cold, especially since I'm from MN and it was 80F colder there a few weeks ago, but 46F feels insanely cold when you don't have heat (and haven't been in a cold winter for a few years). Our apartment, just like many in HK, doesn't have heat. We have a small space heater that helps, but it's probably still 55F in our apartment now. So that's why this picture is a good indicator of today. Since my day was quite boring, here's a fun picture of Camo. This morning, my parents and I went down to the plaza for an arts and crafts fair, but it was raining, so I didn't take any pictures. Then, they left for downtown for a couple days, so we spent the afternoon doing school work. |
